US based providers need to adopt this now. O2 launched an iPhone rental program that adds a $15-25 premium to your monthly bill for 12 months, and then O2 gets the phone back. In general, last generation iPhones generally go for ~$200-300 on secondary markets.
It’s a win for the providers because they end up making an extra $100+ in deferred revenue on each iPhone transaction and it’s a win for consumers because they get to upgrade more regularly. Done. Next problem? (source)
